A big thankyou to everyone who attended my solo gallery show ‘BEING’. All the hard work paid off and the event proved a hugh success, with over 120 people attending the open evening and several art pieces sold. More importantly, the gallery show helped raise awareness towards The Hincks-Dellcrest Centre and Youth Mental Health Awareness, with a portion of proceeds being donated to the organisation.

Many people commented* that they really enjoyed the evening, there was a great atmosphere, thanks in part to a classy event space (Bizune), great music (DJ Flohback), and delicious food (Yorkshire Pudding & Toshi Sushi), which all came together to show my art work in the best light, so a big thankyou to everyone involved.

A great milestone and start of new adventures to come.  Thank you so much for everyone who came and showed support.  I am so grateful and appreciative of those who were always there and helped me along the way (I can not express this enough).

*”What People Are Saying”.

“I wanted to follow up with you and thank you for a great night of art and conversation. It was a really spectacular event and meeting you guys was the best of all”.
Adrian, Interactive Designer.

“I woke up thinking about the art show. It was a lovely evening and a great space. Great idea on the DJ too. It was an awesome end of week mood. Congrats to you guys for selling stuff. It’s not easy for sure. Great show!”.
Vanessa, Art Director.

“I think you have lots to be proud of, Thursday’s event was a real success. I can’t wait to see the photos”.
Danny Floh Back, Director. DJ Floh Back Productions.

“What a great event! Certainly a fantastic turnout”.
Amy, Creative Director.

On December 17th, 2011, The MAD Bean Coffee House (519 Eglinton Ave. West, Toronto) hosted an afternoon of art, music, poetry and spoken word performances. Art works were on display from December 2nd to 30th, featuring local artists Marie Tomeoki, S.L. Brown, Penny Knapp, Julia Van Dine, Joan McGivney and Renata Shiskova.

There was a great turnout and a good afternoon was had by all; coffee, laughter, the opportunity to meet fellow creatives and view some great art works.

Solo Gallery Exhibition Coming in 2012, watch for updates.
Solo art exhibition opening. I had been planning on a solo exhibit in February but as I have started organizing there has been more interest than I had expected and I’ve realized I will need more time to set things to high standards and make the most of the gallery event. So the date has been changed to April:
Click for more information.

I am currently updating the HTML website: www.marietomeoki.com I am also now on Twitter: http://twitter.com/#!/BeingMarieT I have also been coordinating with the owners at Bizune, an amazing space: http://bizune.ca/ who have been ever so gracious.

I am also planning and collaborating with many others, please stay tuned for updates. This will be a bit of a different solo art exhibition experience as I am breaking rigid boundaries of creative communities, bringing together those who would usually not be interacting. Opening and broadening the perspectives of art from various angles!I have a very clear vision, and believe it is crucial to share the experience with everyone. I am so excited I can’t contain my enthusiasm. *BIG SMILE* Here is a peak into something little that I am working on for the exhibit, but much more to come!!!

Canada Post Mental Health Awareness Stamp in Print.

I got word recently that the winning stamp for the mental health awareness stamp competition will be out on September 6th. Although I did not win the main stamp design, all of the the finalists designs were printed on the outer booklet and annual Canada Post stamp magazine (see images to right). Also I have decided to donate the money won from being a finalist in the competition towards the Eating Disorders Clinic here in Toronto.
